Holey Sheet

—unique

layers of mesh canvas,
cut holes

The series is a text and visual pun on the well-known expression “Holy shit!”.
Created by cutting canvases, I depict facial expressions that typically accompany this exclamation.           The holes in the shape of eyes, eyebrows and mouths instantly bring the object to life, turning it into an animate character.

A small exhibition space was adapted for a comic-like story about a piece of paper with holes and its brief life on its way from the desk to the trashcan. In its essence, the narrative resembles memes.
Each piece is created from grid sheets with superimposed cut holes, creating a three-dimensional effect. The artworks are installed on plywood boards, as the material is mostly associated with a working desk surface.

In the first frames of the comic, the objects hang straight and communicate with the viewer only through their facial expressions.
In the following frames, the objects seem to start swinging, and the last one hangs upside down outside the area of its frame.
The only non-art object in this installation is the trash bin into which the last character falls. An object from real life, and such a utilitarian one at that, makes fun of the sterile world of art a little but at the same time unites these worlds.
